1. What is Kuk Sool Won™?

Kuk Sool Won™ is a complete system of traditional Korean martial arts. It brings together the techniques, traditions, and training methods from Korea’s history — including kicking, striking, joint locks, throws, pressure points, forms, and traditional weapons. You’ll find elements of self-defence, fitness, mental discipline, and cultural heritage all rolled into one.

If you’ve ever wished for a martial art that’s versatile, challenging, and rewarding, Kuk Sool Won™ is the Swiss Army knife of the martial arts world — practical, elegant, and effective.

2. Do I need any previous martial arts experience?

Not at all. Most of our students start with zero martial arts background — some have never done any sport at all. Our classes are designed to take you step-by-step from complete beginner to confident martial artist. We work at your pace, teaching the foundations first so you can build skill and confidence over time. All you need is a willingness to learn and a positive attitude — we’ll take care of the rest.

3. How fit do I need to be to start?

You don’t need to be super-fit or flexible to begin. Our training will gradually improve your stamina, strength, balance, and flexibility. We adapt exercises to your level so you can train safely without feeling overwhelmed. Whether you’re looking to get fitter, lose weight, gain strength, or simply try something new, Kuk Sool Won™ is a fantastic way to improve your health while learning a valuable life skill.

4. Is Kuk Sool Won™ safe?

Yes — safety is our top priority, both physically and in terms of student wellbeing. We follow a strict safeguarding code in line with recognised martial arts best practice, ensuring a safe and respectful environment for children and adults alike. All our instructors are fully DBS-checked, trained in safeguarding procedures, and committed to maintaining a positive, inclusive atmosphere.

Physically, we teach all techniques progressively, starting with correct form and control before moving to more advanced movements. We use mats for throws and falls, teach safe falling techniques, and make sure students work with partners of suitable size and experience. This approach keeps risk low while allowing students to build skills confidently.

5. What do I wear for my first class?

For your trial lesson, simply wear comfortable clothing that allows freedom of movement — such as leggings, jogging bottoms, or shorts, along with a t-shirt. We train barefoot on padded flooring, so no special footwear is needed. If you decide to join, we’ll provide you with your FREE official Kuk Sool Won™ uniform and belt, which is practical for training and part of our tradition.

6. How much does it cost?

We offer a free trial session so you can try a class before making any commitment. After that, our membership fees are tailored to your age group and how often you’d like to train. Fees cover your lessons, access to experienced instruction, and a structured syllabus to track your progress. You’ll also have the option to purchase equipment when you’re ready. For our current pricing, please  contact us directly.

7. Can I train with my child?

Yes — we offer family-friendly classes so parents and children can train side by side. It’s a brilliant way to bond, share a hobby, and encourage each other’s progress. Many of our families find that training together strengthens both their fitness and their relationships. It’s a shared challenge, a shared achievement, and a shared set of skills for life.

8. How often should I train?

To see steady progress, we recommend training 2 times a week. However, if your schedule only allows one class a week at first, that’s absolutely fine — you can increase your training as you get into the rhythm. We also encourage students to practise at home between lessons to reinforce what they’ve learned in class.

9. Do you close during school holidays?

No — we run classes year-round, including during school holidays. Martial arts is a long-term skill, and consistency is key. While other sports or activities might stop over the summer, we keep going so students don’t lose momentum. We only close for  limited times of the year.

10. What are the benefits of learning Kuk Sool Won™?

Kuk Sool Won™ offers a wide range of benefits for both body and mind:

  • Fitness: Improves strength, flexibility, coordination, and stamina.
  • Confidence: Builds self-belief through goal-setting and achievement.
  • Self-Defence: Teaches practical skills to protect yourself if needed.
