Celebrating Growth, Grit, and Community: Our 2025 Student Awards
2025 was a year to remember at Kuk Sool Won™ of Yeovil Martial Arts, and we marked it in the best way we know how — by celebrating our students.
Our 2025 Student Awards Ceremony, held at Odcombe Village Hall, brought together students, families, and supporters for an afternoon dedicated to recognising effort, progress, and personal growth. From our youngest beginners to senior adult and black belt students, the room was full of proud smiles, applause, and a strong sense of shared achievement.
More Than Medals and Belts
While technical skill is an important part of martial arts, our awards go much deeper than that. This year’s honours reflected the values at the heart of traditional Korean martial arts:
respect, determination, consistency, leadership, resilience, and perseverance.
Alongside major titles such as Junior of the Year, Adult of the Year, and Black Belt of the Year, we also presented special invitations for students to begin training toward first and third dahn black belt testing — significant milestones that recognise long-term commitment and readiness for the next stage of training.
Most Improved Junior of the Year
A special moment in the ceremony was the presentation of Most Improved Junior of the Year, awarded to Henry L. This award recognised a year of steady progress built on consistent attendance, focus in class, and a genuinely positive attitude.
Henry’s journey throughout 2025 showed exactly what martial arts training is about: turning up week after week, listening, learning, and gradually building both confidence and skill. His improvement stood out not because it happened overnight, but because it was earned through patience, resilience, and determination — the true markers of success on the mat.
A Landmark Year for the School
The awards followed an especially meaningful year for the Yeovil-based school, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2025. Over the past decade, Kuk Sool Won™ of Yeovil Martial Arts has become known not just for high-quality instruction, but for its strong ties to the local community through demonstrations, events, and charitable fundraising.
School owner Stephen Runnacles summed up the spirit of the day perfectly:
“These awards aren’t just about who kicks highest or learns fastest. They’re about character — turning up when it’s hard, showing respect, supporting others, and growing in confidence. We’re incredibly proud of every student.”
Community at the Core
After the formal presentations, the event continued with a relaxed party where students and families stayed to chat, share food, and celebrate together. It was a fitting reminder that Kuk Sool Won™ of Yeovil Martial Arts is more than a class — it’s a community.
The day ended with smiles all round and a clear message: true success in martial arts isn’t just measured by belts earned, but by the people students become along the way.
