Yeovil Martial Arts Students Shine at European Championships

Students from Kuk Sool Won™ of Yeovil enjoyed a hugely successful weekend at the 2026 WKSA European Championships and National Black Belt Testing in Norwich.

A team of 15 competitors, ranging in age from just 6 years old to 51 years old, represented the school at the prestigious European Tournament, competing against martial artists from across the UK and Europe. Their hard work and dedication paid off with an impressive haul of 21 medals, including gold, silver, bronze and copper medals across a variety of divisions.

The tournament tested competitors in areas such as forms, techniques, sparring and weapons, with Yeovil students producing strong performances throughout the day.

The weekend also saw 21 students participate in National Black Belt Testing, with candidates working towards ranks from 1st Dahn through to 6th Dahn Black Belt. National testing is regarded as one of the most demanding events in the Kuk Sool Won calendar, requiring months and, in some cases, years of preparation.

School owner PKJN Stephen Runnacles praised the commitment shown by all students.

“I am incredibly proud of every student who represented Yeovil. Whether competing in the tournament, testing for black belt, or supporting their teammates, everyone demonstrated the values of perseverance, respect and determination. The medals are a fantastic achievement, but seeing students challenge themselves and grow in confidence is what makes us most proud.”

The school, based on the Lynx Trading Estate in Yeovil, offers classes for children, families and adults and continues to be one of the region’s leading traditional Korean martial arts schools.

For the students, families and instructors involved, the Norwich weekend was one to remember and a fitting reward for many months of dedicated training.
