At Kuk Sool Won™ of Yeovil Martial Arts, we believe in not just building strong martial artists, but strong communities. As part of our 10th anniversary celebrations, we proudly raised £750 for Yeovil Opportunity Group, a local children’s charity.
Giving Back Through Martial Arts
The charity fundraising took place during our 10-Year Anniversary Martial Arts Demonstration, held at the Swordfish Centre at the Fleet Air Arm Museum. The event was a fantastic showcase of traditional Korean martial arts, featuring dynamic performances from our talented students, black belts, and visiting masters. The atmosphere was electric and family-friendly, with highlights including:
Traditional forms and advanced self-defence techniques
Children and adult students breaking wooden boards
Demonstrations with Korean weapons
Special guests including the Mayor of Yeovil, Tony Lock, and charity rep Sheila Kiddle from Yeovil Opportunity Group, who even had a go at breaking a board themselves!
As a school rooted in the Yeovil community, we wanted this celebration to give something back. Supporting a children’s charity like Yeovil Opportunity Group – which provides care, education and support for young children with additional needs – was a perfect choice.
Community Generosity Raised Over £600 – Plus Gift Aid
Through demo ticket donations, sponsored board breaking, and generous contributions on the day, we initially raised just over £600. With the addition of Gift Aid, this total rose to £750!
Charity representative Sheila Kiddle attended the event and was moved by the energy and support: “Fundraising like this is vital. Every pound helps us continue our work supporting children with complex needs and their families.”
We’re incredibly proud of our students, their families, and everyone who donated and supported this initiative. It was a true team effort, reflecting the spirit of martial arts – discipline, community, and compassion.
